Zippers are the savior and bane of lightweight tents. They work well when they work, and keep weather and bugs at bay easily. Until they go bad. Snagged on their own material, or simply lost metal to metal contact they can be frustrating and impossible to fix.

Here comes Big Agnes with an alternative: the Zipperless Tent, the Fishhook SL2..Replacing the zips with magnets, Big Agnes claims their new fastening system will keep bugs and rain out as well as zippers. Fifteen magnets secure the main door. We tried the system, and while not as quick as a fast running zipper, with a little practice with tucking and aligning the magnets, this does the job and without the fear of catching fabric in the zips.

This 37 square foot tent  weighs just  3 lb. 10 oz.

Dimension: 90.5″ long, 57″ wide, 13″ thick at the tail end, and 5″ thick at the front. You need the 8-foot ladder for access from either the side or the front. Fits any standard roof rack. Expands to 57″ tall at the apex at the back. Uses 600 Denier Rip Stop Polyester water resistant fabric with mesh and zippered doors on all three sides. Pull in the ladder and feel safe from all the big cats and other predators.
